Communications Technical Writer

Hill Associates is searching for an experienced professional with expertise in communications support and technical writing in an Information Technology (IT) security-focused environment.  We seek an energetic, talented communications professional with general knowledge of enterprise IT systems and networks, who demonstrably understands the process to develop technical documents supporting a large Government Federal Agency’s IT department.  You will help to develop clear and concise information and ease the understanding of complicated and complex material.  The ideal candidate will have prior experience developing documentation and supporting programmatic communications in the Federal Government environment.

This position requires U.S. Citizenship.  The candidate must have the ability to obtain and maintain a public trust suitability clearance. 

Remote-based work is currently supported due to COVID- 19.

What You Will Get to Do:

  • Create various types of documents such as presentations, reports, guidelines, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and user manuals.
  • Research and gather technical and background information for inclusion in project documentation and deliverables.
  • Analyze and establish a project or technical requirements, to include coordination across key project stakeholders.
  • Develop high-quality technical documentation for presentation to Government clients for further use and publication.
  • Develop outlines and drafts for review and approval by Government clients.
  • Support the establishment of metrics and dashboards to convey overall program health.
  • Establish and document repeatable procedures for the dissemination of information within and outside the program.
  • Establish and maintain the overall program documentation repository.
  • Ensure that final documents meet applicable technical requirements.
  • Work closely with project stakeholders to establish technical processes and procedures.
  • Provide status reports for multiple ongoing projects and related documentation efforts.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum BA in English or a closely related field.
  • 10 years of professional work experience, with 5 years’ experience in developing technical documentation or supporting IT-related programmatic communications.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in writing and verbally, with customers, project leaders, team members, program customers, and technical experts.
  • Must be a self-motivator with the ability to work remotely as part of a team, or independently with little supervision or direction.
  • Ability to produce quality work on time, and occasionally under short deadlines.
  • Excellent communications and analytical skills.
  • Attentive listener and a quick learner.
  • A natural curiosity that leads to clarity in explanations and descriptions.
  • Ability to create, discuss and explain technical solutions and documentation.
  • Strong writing and research abilities, and proficiency in using the Internet as required.
  • Experience with the Microsoft Office suite of desktop software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint) in order to develop and manage technical documents from first to final drafts, with proficiency in Word and Excel for developing polished, presentable information for consumption by broad audiences.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience developing documentation/policy in a Federal Government agency.
  • Experience with Federal Government style guides for document publication.
  • Experience in computer graphics and design is beneficial.
